A glass home lift in Newport that sits right at the heart of a waterfront home.
This new two-storey home sits on the canals in Newport, on the Redcliffe Peninsula. It is built around a double-height void, with a floating timber staircase and open-plan living that looks straight out to the water. Any lift here had to feel like part of the design, not an add-on.

The V-Range V80 was a natural fit. It is a screw-driven platform lift that runs inside a slim glass shaft, framed by Direct Lifts in jet black. Light passes right through, and the frame ties in with the glass balustrades and black stair stringer. The machinery sits inside the shaft, so there is no machine room and very little building work, which made it easy to plan into the new build.
Inside, LED downlights and a black floor keep the look clean and simple. The finished lift serves both levels and stands beside the staircase as a feature in its own right. Getting between floors is now easy for everyone in the home, whether that is carrying the shopping upstairs or planning to stay in the house for years to come.

Our Queensland team installed the V80 while the home was still being built, and had it running in about two weeks on site. We completed a full handover once the lift was tested and ready to use.
Key benefits
- Light all the way through: the clear glass shaft keeps the double-height void bright and open
- Made to match: the jet black frame and glass doors sit neatly with the staircase and balustrades
- No machine room: the machinery sits inside the shaft, so no room or cupboard is lost
- Quiet electric drive: a screw drive with no hydraulics, comfortable to use right next to the lounge
- Safety built in: emergency lowering, an emergency phone and safety edges that stop the lift at the slightest touch

Planning a home lift in Newport or the Redcliffe Peninsula?
Building or renovating a two-storey home? It pays to plan the lift early, just as this home did. A V-Range platform lift needs only a slim footprint, single-phase power and very little building work, so it is easy to design in from day one.
A home lift also helps your home work for everyone, now and later. Australia’s Livable Housing Design Standard sets out features that make homes easier to use for people of all ages and abilities. A lift takes that one step further by linking every level.
